As longtime Phoenix-area homeowners know, the extreme heat that Arizona is known for will soon replace this beautiful spring weather.
For you, that may mean more sunscreen and trips to the pool. But for your air conditioner, it means more work and more stress. And if your air conditioner isn’t prepared, you could be left waiting for an air conditioner repair company, in a home that feels more like a sauna.
So, take advantage of the cool before the summer and get these tasks done to prepare your air conditioner for the approaching heat.
Replace your air filter
We live in a dry and dusty climate, which means air filters don’t last long here. And a dirty air filter can actually suffocate your air conditioning system, causing it to work harder than it needs to.
This can lead to higher energy bills, more repairs and a shortened lifespan for your air conditioner. All because of a dirty filter that only takes a few minutes to change. So, before summer comes, change your air conditioning filter.
Clear the area around your air conditioner
If your home’s air conditioner is outside on the ground, you should make sure it has adequate room to breathe. We usually recommend that there is about a three-foot area around the air conditioner that is clear of debris, shrubs, leaves, weeds, etc.
This allows for adequate airflow to your air conditioner and helps keep your air conditioning coils cleaner.
Check the drain line
As part of the cooling process, your air conditioner also removes humidity from the air. This humidity is removed from your home via a drain line (known as a condensate drain line.)
A clogged condensate drain line can cause a lot of damage. Make sure your air conditioner’s drain line is clog-free before turning it on this summer. This check can be performed during an AC tune-up by Galvez Air Conditioning & Refrigeration.
Get an AC tune-up
Like your vehicle, your air conditioner requires routine maintenance to continue to run safely and efficiently. Annual AC tune-ups are recommended by ENERGY STAR, the U.S. Department of Energy, the air conditioner’s manufacturer, and local utility companies APS and SRP.
The best time to have a tune-up performed is now before the summer heat pushes your air conditioner into overdrive and before you have to wait because local air conditioning companies get really busy. It is recommended to have your a/c tuned-up at least twice a year. We recommend a tune-up once in the spring, before summer heat hits, and once in the fall during the monsoon and dust storm seasons.
Be absolutely sure your air conditioner is ready for the Arizona summer heat, which will be here before you know it. Schedule an air conditioning tune-up with Galvez Air Conditioning & Refrigeration.
